Chapter Four

Alex wears a blazer, Jasmine recalls. One that has the same cut and design as one of the men who abducted me that night.

It’s a long shot, but Bambi wonders if her double is perhaps onto something. She knows Jasmine is incredibly perceptive when it comes to small details. And her twin had started to remember more of these details as the day progressed.

I remember that, in the struggle against one of Alex’s men, I whipped open one of the flaps of the brute’s blazer. I saw a Hutchinson & Co. label sewn inside. That’s the name of a famous boutique tailor in the city.

It is one of those random specifics of that fateful night that had the potential to be useful. Yet, even though they now have something workable, Bambi still wishes that Jasmine could recall more from the night. Sadly, perhaps due to the trauma of the event, Bambi aches to know what happened and has played around with the darkest possibilities.

“What exactly do you plan on doing once you get to this place?” Bambi asks, allowing herself to be strung along for the mission.

I plan on getting some information from the business owner. Maybe he can give us a clue as to the identity of our culprits, Jasmine answers, sounding both confident and determined.

“Will he be so willing as to relinquish the particulars of his clients though? If Alex, or his goons, possibly hold some dominion over their contacts—be it through intimidation, or if this man is a sell-out—then we may be endangering ourselves more by just showing up at his place,” Bambi points out. “Are we willing to take that risk?”

Jasmine scoffs. You assume we will be asking him.

It’s not the answer Bambi expects. “Well, how else would—”

Trust me… the truth can be found in more ways than having people simply tell it to you straight.

Bambi isn’t sure what Jasmine is onto, but at this point, Jasmine is the only person who she can trust. For this reason, Bambi is relieved that they would soon make the switch to allow Jasmine’s knack for negotiation to handle the rest.

Hutchinson & Co. is a tailoring business situated right on the edge between the metropolitan heart and the more suburban areas of the city. From its location alone, Bambi immediately assumes that whoever owns it had intended to remain on the cusp of their clientele’s awareness without attracting too much attention from civilians. The social beat of Chicago dimmed down considerably within these parts, and the street itself so seldom saw a large group of passing pedestrians that Bambi wonders how the business might stay afloat if it had not been for its more shady connections.

The outside is nothing to boast about, but upon stepping into the dark shop, they are met with its sleek and rugged interior. It strangely juxtaposes with the more dated styles of attire the establishment seems known for producing. Bambi may have admired the shop, and the quality of its products, but it produces an eerie feeling inside of her that only Jasmine seems unbothered by.
